Kaohsiung Medical University was originally founded in 1954 as the country's first private medical college, which now encompasses 4 affiliated institutions. Contiguous to the campus is the Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital, a medical center with teaching and research advantages. Combining the Kaohsiung Municipal Siaogang, Kaohsiung Municipal Ta-Tung, Kaohsiung Municipal Cijin Hospitals, and the 350 acute beds that the Ministry of health and welfare has approved, KMUH has constructed a high efficiency healthcare system to provide humanized and comprehensive medical services.
